listening effort – seminar

Dear all,

You are cordially invited to the next seminar of the Department of Acoustics to be held on April 9, 2024. at 11:30 am in the Prof. Szczepan Szczeniowski Auditorium in hybrid mode.

The paper will be presented by Ms. Anna Pastusiak, M.Sc. from the Department of Acoustics, Faculty of Physics, UAM.

The title of the paper:
A few words about auditory effort and first conclusions from the validation of the Polish version of the adaptive scale used to assess it

Abstract:
Given the complexity of the processes of perception and correct processing of speech, it is important to assess not only intelligibility itself, but also the so-called listening effort, understood as the cognitive load required to maintain focus and comprehension of a linguistic message.
In this talk, I will introduce the issue of listening effort and methods of assessing it. I will also present the results of a study validating the Polish version of the Adaptive Listening Effort Assessment Scale (ACALES) test conducted with people with hearing loss and normal hearing. In them, listening effort scores were compared with SRT values characterizing the degree of speech intelligibility in both quiet and acoustically demanding conditions (in the presence of masking noise).
